Oregon + College Life

Good Evening Fellow Humans (and aliens alike),

As I write this, I am sitting in my dorm at my college (evading homework) in Oregon. I've been so extremely busy this past week since I arrived. My classes started on Monday and the homework that has been assigned to me has already been difficult, however it is not insurmountable. Surprisingly, the classes I thought were going to be the most challenging for me have turned out to be the classes I enjoy most, and the class I thought I would enjoy most has become the one I dread. Funny, how that works, eh?

I'm carrying 17 units this semester, so I have a great deal of work ahead of me. Currently, I'm also double-majoring in Communication Arts and English. Whether this remains true over the course of the year, we shall see; but as for now, that is my situation.

Why am I telling you all this? Mainly, I wanted to enlighten you to why I may not post much over the semester.

As of today, I have lived at school for a week. It has been quite a transition, going from a California native to a Oregon resident (not to mention now having to share a smaller room with another person). I have enjoyed it immensely thus far and it has been smooth sailing, aside from homework. Although, I admit, I probably should go to bed earlier than I do. It has been an interesting experience, living with and around people my own age. It certainly requires a great deal of self control to say "no" to hanging out when you know you have to do homework instead. These past couple days, I have began to miss friends and family back home.

I am proud to say that I have not gotten lost on campus since I've been here. *Takes a bow*

What else happened this week? Well, I have been without my cell-phone since Sunday evening, due to my implicit stupidity. I dropped my iPhone in a puddle while I was getting out of a car because it was in my lap rather than my pocket like I thought (talk about a blonde moment), and later that day it shorted out. It was a moment where I felt my new home saying, "Welcome to Oregon, where water damage is easier to achieve!" However, I am fortunate to have been able to contact a local repairman who was willing to fix my phone. It has been an interesting few days without it though, but in a good way. Instead of having my phone to fall back on in awkward situations with people I'm just meeting, I have to trudge on through and actually be social. Like I said, it's been a good thing. Honestly, I think my friends miss my phone more than I do.

From now on, I think my posts will mostly be updates on my life here at school. Higher education takes a lot of energy, so I won't have that energy for my posts.

That's all for now, folks.
Goodnight. -M
